If you fancy celebrating Halloween with something other than sweets and chocolate, you should take a look at this spooky range of Halloween books for children available in my online store…
Room on the Broom
A modern classic, Julia Donaldson’s Room on the Broom is a brilliant story about a clumsy witch and some animal friends who come to her rescue. It’s a lovely rhyming story, with a cast of colourful characters. Children as young as two will appreciate this story, and it’s great for older kids too – my 7-year-old will still sit down when we pull this one out at bedtime.
This is one of my favourite ever story books, and its popularity is proven by the fact that it was turned into an animation a couple of Christmases ago, and it’s also a stage show (we’ve seen it and highly recommend it). Buy it now for just £4 or as part of my 3 for £10 deal
Cuddly Room on the Broom characters
Bring the Room on the Broom story to life with one of my character soft toys. Choose from either a cuddly witch or dragon with the book, from just £16 each.
A perfect book for dinosaur fans – when Winnie the Witch spots a competition to make or draw a real dinosaur, she uses her magic to go back in time to find the real thing!
Part of my 3 for £10 offer.
A thoroughly revolting rhyming tale about Max the Monster and his favourite foods. This silly story will even give you a few ideas for making your own Halloween feast! This one’s in my 3 for £10 deal too.
When the evil Wizard Lizard captures the ever-helpful Superworm, puts him under his spell, and threatens to feed him to his hungry crow, Superworm’s pals from the garden make a plan to set him free. Not technically a Halloween story, the evil Wizard Lizard is enough to add Superworm by Julia Donaldson to my spooky shortlist!
Mr Men and Little Miss Halloween books
Perfect for slightly older children, and a great alternative to a bag of sweets, these spooky tales from the Mr Men and Little Miss collection make the perfect Halloween treat. All are just £2 each or part of my brilliant value 3 for £5 deal.
Some other favourite children’s books for Halloween…
My boys and I totally adore Lee Wildish’s illustrations. This book is packed with ghouls and monsters perfect for enjoying at Halloween. In the rhyming tale, little cat assures us he’s definitely not afraid of giants, witches, ogres, ghouls, lions, dragons, dinosaurs, or grizzly bears… but what happens when they all come knocking at his door?!
Another Julia Donaldson, albeit a lesser-known one; A little ghost tries to give Lydia Lou a scare… but he can’t even wake her up. He calls on his noisy animal and baby friends to help, but even their loud raucous doesn’t rouse her…until a feather floats in. There’s a lovely repetitive rhythm to this story (not the mention the chance to make lots of silly animal noises) – it’s bound to be a hit with any young family.
One of the colourful collaborations between Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, The Princess and the Wizard is a clever tale about a young princess and an evil wizard. When Princess Eliza is captured by the wizard, her fairy Godmother casts a spell to give her seven chances to escape…but can she outfox the man in the pointy hat?
