It’s been a right royal month with new babies and new wives in the space of four weeks. If you want to get into the royal spirit too, this fabulously funny book is the one for you.
Don’t Chew the Royal Shoe
by Kate Leake
Lord Chippington Marmaduke Fluffy Toes (or Chips, for short), wasn’t quite like the other royal dogs. All he ever wanted to do was chew the royal shoes; each one had a different taste and he’d bury them all deep beneath the royal rhododendrons.
But when the Queen had no matching shoes to wear to the royal garden party she ordered an urgent investigation.
When the culprit was discovered, the Queen insisted all the shoes be put well out of reach and Chips was banned from chewing shoes of any kind.
But one night when everyone was sleeping, Chips was awakened by a strange noise…and a magnificent cheesy pong. Can Chips penchant for shoes save the day?
Children aged 3 and up (as well as 2 year-olds who can sit through a longer story) will love this funny tale. The illustrations are really colourful with lots to look at, and there are some great opportunities for silly sounds and voices too.
And it’s a definite hit for dog lovers – Chips’ love of chewing shoes instead of the wide selection of carefully bought dog toys, brought back lots of memories of our first dog Bertie.
