Have you ever thought about making a dinner based on some of your favourite picture books? In this guest post, Kayley from Friendly First Foods shares her recipe for space-ghetti – an out-of-this-world school dinner from one of her son’s favourite stories…
Harry loves stories. He is forever acting out his favourites and can recite some word for word. One of his favourite stories is Welcome to Alien School by Cathy Hart and Ed Eaves.
He especially likes Mr Krark’s long arms and the bit where they have space-ghetti for lunch! Welcome to Alien School is one of many fantastic books by this author; Harry also loves Supermarket Zoo which he was very kindly sent by the lovely Amanda at Books & Pieces. They are such wonderful stories and have really supported Harry’s imaginative play.
I decided to get creative and make a space themed feast for my little bookworm! The space-ghetti in the book glows bright green so that’s what I was after with this recipe. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and it was ready in the time it took to boil the spaghetti! It is super healthy and Harry was very impressed with the taste.
See how we made it…
Spaghetti – enough for one hungry little space traveller!
1 tbsp cream cheese
Large handful of spinach
Cook the spaghetti in a pan of boiling water.
Add the cream cheese, spinach and avocado to a food processor and blend well.
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti and stir the sauce through it.
Serve and enjoy!
As you can see Harry really enjoyed this meal and I loved how quick and easy it was to make. I love using stories as a way to get Harry excited about things, whether it be potty training, healthy eating or even preparing for his baby sister’s arrival!
I hope you enjoy this recipe and it is a hit with your little foodies!
